Research Focus

My teaching focuses on improving student and public understanding and awareness of how data is collected and processed, from social media, from online commerce, and from our growing number of Internet-connected devices and services. This includes the examination of the ethical challenges and concerns about how such data is used and misused.

Current Projects

■ Curriculum Impact Grant: Enhancing Research Skills for Graduate Students: with colleagues Dr. Rytikova and Dr. Boicu, I’m working on a Provost’s Curriculum Impact Grant to develop enhanced research skills training for graduate students in data analytics.

■ NSF Grant: Innovations in Graduate Education: with colleagues Dr. Rytikova and Dr. Boicu, we have submitted a grant proposal for enhancing research skills for graduate students in data analytics.

■ Designing curriculum for Big Data on Cloud Computing course: I’m developing a course for Big Data on Cloud Computing Systems for the new BAS in Cloud Computing degree.
