Institute for Digital Innovation

The Institute for Digital Innovation recognizes the best digital innovators at the Annual PhD IST Graduate Student Symposium at George Mason University

The symposium brought together George Mason University’s researchers to present their work through lightning talks and poster sessions, showcasing how emerging digital technologies are being used to address complex challenges in fields ranging from artificial intelligence and robotics to digital health and data privacy.

Throughout the event, students shared both the problems they are tackling and the innovative solutions they are developing, demonstrating how Mason researchers are translating ideas into impactful research. Judges and panelists challenged presenters to expand their thinking, ask deeper questions, and refine their methodologies — creating a valuable space for academic growth and scholarly exchange.

Many of the projects highlighted how technology increasingly intersects with society and human well-being. From AI systems designed to improve privacy and trust to wearable sensors that track movement data and help prevent injuries, the research presented showed how data, machine learning, and human-centered design are shaping the future of innovation.

The Institute for Digital Innovation (IDIA) was proud to organize a prize competition for outstanding research presentations, helping recognize and encourage the next generation of digital innovators and scholars at George Mason University. The winners were:

Congratulations!

Beyond the presentations, networking sessions and poster discussions allowed researchers, faculty, and students to exchange ideas across disciplines, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in advancing technology that benefits society.
