Institute for Digital Innovation

Research Areas

At the Institute for Digital Innovation, we do not view technology in isolation. Our research strategy is built on the understanding that true innovation requires a continuous feedback loop between foundational discovery, real-world application, and societal impact.

To guide this complex ecosystem, the institute supports transdisciplinary work across three core themes:

Technologies

Conceptualizing and designing novel algorithms, techniques, and technologies. We are advancing the foundational blocks of the digital era. Our researchers are pushing the boundaries of what is computationally possible, from securing the networks that power our economy to developing the next generation of artificial intelligence.

Key Capabilities: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Quantum Computing, Data Science.

Systems

Developing and deploying computing systems to advance fields as diverse as finance, built infrastructure, health, national security, and social justice. Innovation proves its value when it solves a problem. We partner with domain experts to embed digital intelligence into the complex systems that sustain our world.

Key Capabilities: Smart Communities, Biohealth Informatics, Critical Infrastructure, Transportation.

Digital Society

Engaging in critical reflection that examines the implications of digital innovation. We ensure that innovators are sensitive to designing responsibly, and that key stakeholders are informed about technology’s social, ethical, political, and economic impacts.

Key Capabilities: Digital Humanities, Tech Policy, Human-Machine Partnership, Ethics in AI.
