IDIA Programs
Advancing IDIA’s mission to drive tangible impact across the region, the Digital Innovation Summer Industry Graduate Internships program connects Mason’s top-tier graduate students with leading industry partners.
This program fully funds student placements, providing companies with risk-free, all-expenses-covered access to exceptional digital talent and a direct gateway into the broader Mason research ecosystem. For students, internships enrich their academic research with hands-on experience and valuable connections at cutting-edge digital innovation companies. These embedded student engagements empower Mason faculty to establish strong relationships with corporate partners that can evolve into long-term, high-impact research collaborations.
The Digital Innovation Challenge Lab is an agile problem-solving engine. We partner with companies, non-profits, and civic organizations to tackle their most pressing technical and business challenges.
By assembling bespoke teams of Mason faculty, specialized researchers, high-potential graduate students, and global university partners, we deliver actionable, market-ready solutions while derisking your R&D pipeline.
Our foundational model for these agile sprints is the IDIA-Steinbeis International Digital Workforce Development Program. Through this initiative, we embed working professionals from major international companies into the Arlington innovation ecosystem.
The Institute for Digital Innovation (IDIA) sponsors prize competitions to recognize outstanding student research presentations and posters. Rewarding such academic excellence directly supports the university’s mission to advance impactful research and foster the next generation of digital innovators. The competition successfully showcases how the university’s talent pool is actively leveraging applied R&D, rapid prototyping, and advanced systems integration to address complex societal challenges and drive academic discovery toward actionable solutions. Prize winners are selected by a panel of industry experts to ensure that academic excellence and impact are recognized.
IDIA currently does not offer research fellowships. Stay tuned for new programs and opportunities.
The IDIA Fellowship Programs were designed to catalyze the Institute’s mission of shaping a digital society that promotes equality, well-being, and prosperity through advanced research and cross-sector collaboration. These programs positioned Mason researchers as central hubs of innovation, drove the growth of the Northern Virginia innovation ecosystem while preparing fellows for large-scale external funding and leadership in the digital economy.
