What is IDIA?
Researchers, innovators, and scholars in Mason’s Institute for Digital InnovAtion (IDIA) engage in cutting edge work to shape the future of our digital society, promoting equality, wellbeing, security and prosperity. More than six hundred Mason faculty and their research staff and students are working across three themes: Technologies, Systems, and Digital Society.

As part of our effort to drive inclusion and diversity efforts in technology-related fields, IDIA has developed a new program to connect, convene, and communicate with the national capital community.
GMU IDIA communicates on behalf of students by building career readiness beyond what is received in their educational curriculum.
We are aiding workforce development by creating a community of technology students across the DMV region that are prepared and eager to enter technology-driven fields.
FUSE at Mason Square
In 2020, the University begins a $250 million transformation of its Arlington campus, with the development of the FUSE at Mason Square, a 360,000 square foot mixed-use building that will house IDIA research and innovation programs, as well as the graduate programs of the University’s School of Computing, Scalia Law School, Schar School of Policy and Government, Carter School of Peace and Conflict Resolution, and the School of Business.
Our campus transformation is inspired by a new urban geography of innovation that concentrates university research and development programs, corporate innovation labs, innovation-centric convening and community programs, high-growth-companies and related incubator and accelerator programs, diverse high-density residential options, and retail amenities — all in a compact urban setting that allows innovators to live, learn, work, and play in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.
