Research Focus

Dr. Huang’s research interests are on ocean-atmosphere interactions from subseasonal to
decadal time scales and their influences on the global and regional climate variations and
predictability. His research approach is through climate modeling and observational data
analysis. Dr. Huang has conducted ocean general circulation model simulation, ocean data
assimilation and coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model simulation. In the past few
years, he has been focusing on the seasonal prediction and predictability of El Niño-Southern
Oscillation (ENSO), the US precipitation, and Asian Monsoon using realistic global climate
forecast systems. His research topics also include the mechanisms of the tropical Atlantic and
Indian Ocean variability and Atlantic Multidecadal variability. Dr. Huang has authored and
coauthored over 100 peer-reviewed papers on academic journals.
